Graphic File Format Information
File Formats And Explanation Of What You Need to Know
When Requesting Your Artwork From A Design Professional
Please note: In the event you need assistance communicating with your design professional or don’t have access to your original artwork files and material, please contact us for assistance.
Logo Creation and File Format
The industry standard format for creating logos is in a 'vector' program such as Adobe Illustrator* and should be submitted in an ‘vector’ .eps file format.
*Other vector programs include CorelDraw! and FreeHand and vector .eps format files can also be exported out of these programs.
Request 'Vector .eps format' File Type
Request an .eps vector file format and make sure that the text has been converted to 'curves'* (some people use the term 'outlines' instead of ‘curves’.)
*What this jargon means is that the fonts have been turned into art and are no longer a 'font', therefore eliminating any missing or incompatible font issues.
Photos, Images & Clip Art
Request all original untouched photos, original untouched images and original clip art.
Page Layout Program Files and Associated Linked Graphics and Fonts
Often page layout programs are used to assemble a printed piece. The industry standard page layout programs include Adobe InDesign and QuarkXpress and these layout files must also be requested from your design professional. Be sure to have them include all associated linked graphics and fonts as well as any original layered files that were used.
